No Happy Ending

Much of the iconic nature of the Disney Princesses franchise comes from their untarnished grace; the elegant and noble nature with which they carry themselves. Thomas Czarnecki challenges this elegance in his latest photo series, “From Enchantment to Down”, by putting some of the most recognizable heroines in some very morbid situations. The Disney characters faces are obscured as they lay prostrated in various poses of tragic death, something that would seem jarring and distasteful if they were not so masterfully conceived. Czarnecki manages to capture the innocence of these characters while still maintaining the seriousness of the setting, a feat that adds to the budding contrast between youth and death that these photos generate.
